Where Jesus Walks Beside Me « A View From A Hill

Here is a nice poem by a Pastor friend I wait on at Cracker Barrel in Canton, Ga. His name is C.R. Hill and he was the former pastor of one of the bigger Methodist Churches in Canton. Please take the time to read and comment on the poem if you like it.

Harmonious Home Life Through Serving One Another

Waiters and waitresses, also known as servers make their living catering to the needs of restaurant patrons. A good server graciously serves their guests, trying to give them the best possible dining experience. Proficient, experienced servers anticipate the needs and requests of their guests before they ask and automatically meet their needs. Servers strive to provide excellent service in hope of receiving a tip or gratuity for their service; indeed, the hope of monetary compensation is a strong motivation for a server to strive to provide exemplary service. Laying aside the financial compensation, the dynamic between a server and guest provides an avenue for one human being to serve another. The principles behind this dynamic of human service are applicable outside of the food service setting. These principles of service have their applications in various aspects of life including everyday friendships, sports teams, occupational settings, religious organizations and in the home.
Family Members Serving One Another
Unfortunately the home at times can be an area of turmoil instead of a place of refuge and respite from the world. Many times the root of this turmoil can be traced to selfishness on the part of one or more of the family members, whether it is a child, sibling or a spouse. The cure for selfishness is found in service to others. The family that spends their time serving one another will have little room left for selfishness. Applying the principles of restaurant service to the home setting can change the atmosphere of the home from one of conflict and strife to one of joy and peace.
Principles of Service
  • Sacrifice - The good server sacrifices themselves for their guests. They realize that they are there to serve their guests; they make it their goal to meet the needs of the guest. As family members give themselves in service to one another, placing each other's needs in front of their own, they will see an end to much of their conflicts.
  • Graciousness - Graciousness is a hallmark of a good server. Good servers server their guest graciously with a good attitude and with courtesy, not begrudgingly. Providing acts of service to family members graciously and not grudgingly is essential to harmony within the home. On the other hand, serving one another with an attitude of resentment is not good for the recipient or for the one serving.
  • Consideration - Being able to able to anticipate the needs of a guest is a great trait to have as a server and makes for a great dining experience for a patron. This principle when applied within the home exemplifies the love and care family members have for each other. Additionally, anticipating and meeting needs in advance sends the message I have been thinking about you.
  • Promptness - Being prompt is essential to being a good server. Being prompt is also important around the home. In the home it is essential not only to anticipate and meet needs, but also to take care of needs in a timely manner. If you are not prompt, you may end up providing too little, too late.
This of course is not an exhaustive list of how to serve one another in the home but is rather a few guidelines based upon service principles. Jesus taught His disciples that the greatest among them would be the one who was a servant. Perhaps to be great in our homes and have a great home starts with being a good servant.

Those who can afford to pay yet do not pay taxes are freeloading off of the rest of the tax payers.

Daily Fuel Gauge Report--national, state and local average prices for gasoline, diesel and E-85.

Update on National gas price averages. The average price of gas is now $3.67 per gallon. These rising prices makes the oil on government lands, oil off the US coast, Alaskan oil and the Canadian Keystone pipeline look really good. This also makes former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich who proposes an attractive, aggressive domestic energy policy look like an attractive candidate for the presidency.

Santorum Makes Remarks About Satan Targeting America

What is the big deal about Rick Santorum's saying that Satan had his sights set on America and the country was facing spiritual warfare. Maybe it is just me, but it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the cause of all the evil challenges that America is facing. Don't get me wrong, I believe that America is one of the greatest countrys on the planet; however, I believe that we are experiecing great evils that are satanic in nature. I do not know that satan has his sights on America any more than he does any other country, but the Bible says that he is as a roaring lion going to and fro seeking someone to devour.

Santorum made his remark about satan in 2008, however, recent news headlines reveal that there is definitely an influence of evil affecting our society in 2012, an influence that has always been there. From fathers burning their children and committing suicide to mom and dads walking away from thier children to follow their drug addictions, there is an element of evil that goes beyond most peoples comprehension.

Maybe we should just  take Rick Santorum's remark as his understanding that there are evil forces at work that are seeking to undermine our country, and that as much as there is a God who is good who desires nothing but good for His creation, there is a satan who is seeking the demise of the human race. May we realize that it is not only America that satan has his sights on, but all of mankind.

The Mountain in the Distance

Off in the distance, I saw it rising towards the sky
Drawn by its beauty, its steep I endeavored to climb
She was indeed an enchanting lady, a jewel set against a backdrop of blue and purple sky
I just had meet this alluring woman that had caught my wandering eye

Walking down the road, towards the mountain height
Seemed like the goal I was seeking, was still a far off sight
With my legs and feet growing weary, my resolve to reach her begin a sharp decline
I had second thoughts about meeting this eye scorching delight

I sat me down on the side of the road, my aching body to rest and retire
Forgetting for the time being, the intense object of my desire
Then something wonderful happened and suddenly my surrounding didn't seem so dire
For I realized that the beauty I was seeking was with me all the time

What should I write,  a story, song or poem? So many directions I could go, but which one leads to home? I know that there are words that need written., locked within my weary mind; may God give me the grace to write them at the proper time. So what shall I write, a story, song of poem? I do not know which one I will choose but I hope the choosing does not take too long.

Boost Bass and Mood This Winter: Waterproof Earphones for Blues-Busting Winter Sports

Earphone Solutions, waterproof earphones retailer, reports on data citing winter sports as treatment for seasonal depression, with waterproof earphones providing musical motivation.

<><>
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) February 17, 2012
Skis? Check. Gloves? Yep. Hat? Of course. Waterproof earphones? Earphone Solutions, waterproof earphones retailer, certainly hopes so. Mood-lifting winter sports, including skiing and snowboarding, can kick up snow and ice, leaving regular earphones defenseless against the weather conditions. The earphones experts from Earphone Solutions are here to shed the sunlight on earphones that can withstand the snowy conditions so winter sports enthusiasts can continue beating those wintertime blues. Feeling under the weather this winter? The American Psychological Association reports that engaging in outdoor activities can play a critical role in coping with seasonal depression, specifically noting at YourMindYourBody.org that it’s important to “[s]tay physically active, even if your activity is indoors. Some of us really hate the cold weather. It is well documented that physical activity improves mood.” Flavio T., Owner, Earphone Solutions, explains how watertight earphones aid in winter sports activities designed to beat seasonal depression. “It’s no mystery why athletes and exercise enthusiasts listen to music – that perfect playlist can keep you going through the coldest of winter conditions and the toughest of exercise regimes. Seasonal depression is a real issue, and listening to music the right way – with waterproof earphones – is a great way to build up the motivation to head outside and combat depression,” says Flavio. It’s well-known that exercise and athletic activities can help ease depression symptoms, and the Mayo Clinic explains that it is a culmination of releasing brain chemicals like neurotransmitters and endorphins, decreasing immune system chemicals that can deepen depression symptoms and upping overall body temperature that can help to calm a person. Engaging in winter sports, equipped with the right waterproof earphones and a mood-boosting playlist, can assist in easing seasonal depression symptoms. Visit Earphone Solutions to discover the ideal pair of waterproof earphones to kick start winter sports activities and kick seasonal depression to the curb. About Earphone Solutions FMA Solutions was founded by Flavio T. in 1995 in Orlando, Florida. Ford Sony Sound System

  • Tracks from artists as diverse as Black Eyed Peas, Fugees and Eagles help tailor audio system to new Ford B-MAX's acoustics
  • Sound engineers listen to tracks thousands of times to "tune" car audio to meet acoustic demands of each new Ford's uniquely-shaped interior
  • Mariah Carey, John Coltrane and classical composers including Vivaldi also make the cut in pursuit of the perfect sound set-up for B-MAX

BRENTWOOD, Essex, 13 February, 2012 – Every car – like every room or auditorium – has unique acoustics qualities. The size and shape of the cabin, the materials in the seats and dashboard, the ratio of glass and steel – all of it impact the sound quality in a new car.

When Ford engineers set out to fine tune the perfect sound system to match the acoustics of the new B-MAX multi-activity vehicle, they found they needed a special tool -- the perfect music playlist.

Radiohead, Black Eyed Peas, the Eagles and jazz legend John Coltrane rubbed shoulders with classical composers Vivaldi and Carl Orff on the B-MAX playlist as engineers used key moments in the songs and pieces to fine-tune the B-MAX sound system.

The classic opening to the Eagles' anthem Hotel California features the ideal "dry" sound for testing bass, ambience and tone, says Ford of Europe audio engineer Matthias Terstegge.  He should know. He has listened to it thousands of times while developing the B-MAX and other Ford cars.

He also listened out for the powerful kick bass in Black Eyed Peas' track Just Can't Get Enough to test the woofers in the B-MAX; tuning the low frequency filters in the amplifier unit to retain a strong and punchy bass sound without door buzz and rattles.

Bass sounds are evenly distributed but the treble is sensitive to seating position, so engineers tuned the tweeters using Vivaldi's Four Seasons concertos and John Coltrane tracks to ensure a good front/rear balance.  The soaring Four Seasons violins were an exacting challenge for the B-MAX's high-frequency tweeters. If they're not set right, the sound could have been more piercing than pleasurable.

"Creating a great-sounding system is much more than choosing a good quality amplifier and speakers," says Terstegge, a guitarist whose passion for music and electrical engineering background led him to his current role. He compiled the B-MAX playlist from other experts' recommendations, tracks from his own collection or a song he heard on the radio and jotted down the name.

"Each car interior has completely different acoustics, and detailed tuning can make a dramatic difference to what the driver hears," he says. "The human ear can detect subtle differences in the sound and you can't beat simply listening to the system for that final tuning. The tracks we use really help identify what needs tuning.  But after thousands of plays, I feel like I never want to hear them again."

The all-new Ford B-MAX; including DAB radio as standard across the range, will be available with an exclusive premium quality Sony audio system. It features eight high performance speakers and a 4 x 25 Watt Sony amplifier. Drivers can select music from the built-in CD/radio unit, including Digital Audio Broadcast, or from their own portable music players connected via USB or Bluetooth.
