Miserable Heart

Rough and callused, buried deep within
Scarred and marred by the harrowing din
That incessantly falls on perforated ears
Plagued by the curse of human fears

Yet his heart lives on though scarred it be
Bruised and battered filled with misery
As it beats in time with the insane tempo
Of a parade of fools caught in limbo

Duane, great texture in this poem that considers the heart that has been, perhaps, wounded. I'm so glad you shared this for the prompt.

the second stanza actually resonated with me...feeling as though you heart is beaten, been there and being led on by the parade of fools, perhaps making you the largest of them all...yep...

some intriguing images here..the perforated ears and the parade of fools caught in limbo...way too many people are marching to this drum...and sometimes i'm one of them

Sad and so well said. A time to grieve and then move forward. He needs R&R up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Ouch, the textures of the heart always seem so rough.

Like Brian, I was most taken with the second stanza, but the images throughout were telling and original, I thought. Enjoyable.
