Toccoa River
Photograph I took of the Toccoa river near the Sandy Bottoms canoe launch site. The river is kind of low but still very pretty. This is a view where the old cable car used to be. In years past there was a steel cable strung across the river that had a little car that you could cross over with. The car was human powered and riders had to be careful not to run over their hands with the pulleys that the cable ran through. Presently the cable has been taken down and all that remains is the big concrete pillars the cable was attached to. What is known as Sandy Bottoms Canoe Launch now was known as the Cable Cars when I was young. Then as now it was a place to camp, gather and put tubes into the river to float to Shallowford Bridge or farther down to the rapids.

Directions to Tilley Bend Cemetery
If you are in the Blue Ridge area and want to visit the historic Tilley Bend Church and Cemetaryit is not too hard to find. Take Hwy 76 to Aska road which is at the far end of town past Pizza Hut. Turn right on Aska road and keep going to Shallowford Bridge which crosses the Toccoa River. Go left across Shallowford Bridge and keep going until the road forks, go left and Tilley Bend Church eillbe on your left not far from where you turn. People look for different things at church, I will share what I have found; a beautiful, rustic little church and cemetery tucked away in the mountains surrounding my hometown, Blue Ridge, Ga. If you like old graveyards, old churches and riding through the mountains you will enjoy taking a jaunt up Aska road to Tilley Bend.
