Photograph I took of the Toccoa river near the Sandy Bottoms canoe launch site. The river is kind of low but still very pretty. This is a view where the old cable car used to be. In years past there was a steel cable strung across the river that had a little car that you could cross over with. The car was human powered and riders had to be careful not to run over their hands with the pulleys that the cable ran through. Presently the cable has been taken down and all that remains is the big concrete pillars the cable was attached to. What is known as Sandy Bottoms Canoe Launch now was known as the Cable Cars when I was young. Then as now it was a place to camp, gather and put tubes into the river to float to Shallowford Bridge or farther down to the rapids.

Know anyone who has a photo of the cable car? I went across once about 55 years ago.
