The Wake Up Call

Lost in the sweet delirium of an early morning dream
The unwelcome blast from her call comes crashing through my sleep.
Slumbering, mumbling, crumbling I stumble down my hall
All for the sake of my wonderful little wife's precious wake up call

I love you honey comes a sweet voice through the ear piece of the receiver
I love you too I yawn insync trying hard to please her
Are you awake darling? she quizs me with a giggle in her squawk
No I am still sleeping baby, you are speaking the our dog who I just trained to talk

  1. smiles.. sometimes a talking dog would not be bad at all esp. when it would help that we could sleep a bit longer.. my wake up call is josh redman - tenor sax piece... soothing...even in the early morning..smiles

    1. No I get those call sometimes but it's my loving wife who I don't mind if she wakes me up though I do struggle at times to reach the phone

  5. If I could teach our dog to talk she would surely rat me out for a treat! What a clever addition to Poetics tonight. Thank you!

  6. Love the wisecrack come-back! I have a husband who calls early each morning like clockwork, even on days off when he forgets I might be sleeping in. Might have to borrow and recycle that final line of yours!

  8. What a fun little tale in your poem. Good one liner that we could all use at some point.
