IRAN – Parliament Votes to Punish Apostasy with Death – Compass Direct News

On September 9, Iran's parliament voted in favor of a draft law that would mandate the death penalty for men convicted of apostasy, a charge frequently brought against Christians in the country. If this law passes all stages of Iran's legislative process, male Muslim converts to Christianity if convicted would have no other punishment than death.. Under current Iranian law, apostasy is a capital offence, but the judge is free to decide the penalty. Pray for believers in custody in Iran and ask God to protect them. Ask the Holy Spirit to encourage believers in Iran who are standing for Christ unashamedly despite the cost they might pay. Praise God for their courage.

LAOS – Evicted Families in Need, Believers Still Being Held – VOM Sources

VOM contacts in Laos report that seven families evicted from their homes by police early last year continue to face hardships as they relocate to other areas. Meanwhile, eight pastors who were arrested in Udom Sai province in March 2008, are still being held in prison and there is no indication when they might be released. Please pray for the evicted families and ask God to meet their needs. Pray for the families of imprisoned pastors who are financially challenged, especially for some of the children that have had to leave school because their parents are in prison. Ask God to watch over and protect VOM workers serving persecuted believers in Laos.

AZERBAIJAN – Baptist Pastor Ordered to Remain in Prison – Forum 18 News

A judge has ordered imprisoned Baptist Pastor Hamid Shabanov detained for another two months. "The judge called the latest hearing without even informing Hamid's lawyer. This was a clear violation," Ilya Zenchenko head of the Baptist Union told Forum 18 News. The pastor was arrested in June following a police raid on his home and faces charges of possession of an illegal
weapon; charges that his family insist are fabricated. Pray for Pastor Shabanov's family and congregation. Ask God to protect and encourage them.

Things are looking better for share holders of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (CBRL).Share prices jumped $3.09 or 12 % based on 2009 guidance .In my opinion Cracker Barrel has the recipe for success for the days ahead .Even in a down market I believe that they will hold their own .With a competitively priced menu and a great product to offer .I don't foresee Cracker Barrel going anywhere but up .

Blue Ridge Georgia

It has been a wonderfully ,beautiful day here in good old Blue Ridge ,Ga. .My hometown where I was raised and as John Cougar Mellencamp so wonderfully put "probably be where they bury me" in his hit song Smalltown .I really feel truly blessed to live in such a beautiful area that still has that small town charm and feel about it .We ain't has small as we use to be ,but hey ,who is .I still believe that it is one of the grandest places to live on the planet ,if you was here you would probably be saying the same thing .Hopefully in the future I can upload some photos of the mountains that totally can blow you away if you know what I mean .

Palin and McCain ,the Dynamic Duo

With the RNC wrapping up this week ,it seems that McCain and Palin have proved to be a force to be reckoned with .Both candidates gave electrifying speeches at the convention which seems to took some wind out of the oppositions sails .A lot of people are praising McCains pick of Sarah Palin as not only a brilliant political move but also as a step in the right direction for our country .Will we see the first woman vice president in January or the first black president .Both will be history makers ,my question is what kind of history will it make for our great country .

Forsaken Roots

Did you know that 52 of the 55 signers of The Declaration of Independence were orthodox, deeply committed Christians? The other three all believed in the Bible as the divine truth, the God of scripture, and His personal intervention.


It is the same congress that formed the American Bible Society. Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, the Continental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of scripture for the people of this nation.


Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, 'Give me liberty or give me death.' But in current textbooks the context of these words is deleted. Here is what he said: 'An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not of the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death.'

These sentences have been erased from our textbooks.



Was Patrick Henry a Christian? The following year, 1776, he wrote this 'It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.'



Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well- worn Bible: 'I am a Christian, that is to say a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus also.'



Consider these words from George Washington, the Father of our Nation, in his farewell speech on September 19, 1796:



'It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.'



Was George Washington a Christian? Consider these words from his personal prayer book: 'Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thy son, Jesus Christ.'



Consider these words by John Adams, our second president, who also served as chairman of the American Bible Society.



In an address to military leaders he said, 'We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'

How about our first Court Justice, John Jay?



He stated that when we select our national leaders, if we are to preserve our Nation, we must select Christians. ' Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.'

John Quincy Adams, son of John Adams, was the sixth U.S. President.



He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, 'The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.'



Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth when he wrote, 'The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country.'



In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution: 'The congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools.'



William Holmes McGuffey is the author of the McGuffey Reader, which was used for over 100 years in our public schools with over 125 million copies sold until it was stopped in 1963. President Lincoln called him the 'Schoolmaster of the Nation.'



Listen to these words of Mr. McGuffey: 'The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our notions on character of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions. From no source has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred Scriptures. >From all these extracts from the Bible I make no apology.'



Of the first 108 universities founded in America , 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first.



Harvard University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and Greek so that they could study the scriptures:



'Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay Jesus Christ as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom, let everyone seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him (Proverbs 2:3).'

For over 100 years, more than 50% of all Harvard graduates were pastors!



It is clear from history that the Bible and the Christian faith, were foundational in our educational and judicial system. However in 1947, there was a radical change of direction in the Supreme Court.



Here is the prayer that was banished:

'Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee. We beg Thy blessings upon us and our parents and our teachers and our country.

Amen..'

In 1963, the Supreme Court ruled that Bible reading was outlawed as unconstitutional in the public school system. The court offered this justification: 'If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could and have been psychologically harmful to children.'



Bible reading was now unconstitutional , though the Bible was quoted 94 percent of the time by those who wrote our constitution and shaped our Nation and its system of education and justice and government.



In 1965, the Courts denied as unconstitutional the rights of a student in the public school cafeteria to bow his head and pray audibly for his food.

In 1980, Stone vs. Graham outlawed the Ten Commandments in our public schools.



The Supreme Court said this: 'If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments were to have any effect at all, it would be to induce school children to read them. And if they read them, meditated upon them, and perhaps venerated and observed them, this is not a permissible objective.'

Is it not a permissible objective to allow our children to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments?

Check this:
'THIS CONSTITUTION WILL FAIL, AS OTHERS HAVE BEFORE IT, AND THAT WILL BE DUE TO THE CORRUPTION OF THE PEOPLE, FOR WHOM IN THE END ONLY DESPOTISM WILL SERVE.' Benjamin Franklin 1706 - 1790 (how did he know?)



James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States , said this: 'We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments.'

Today we are asking God to bless America . But how can He bless a Nation that has departed so far from Him?



Most of what you read in this article has been erased from our textbooks.. Revisionists have rewritten history to remove the truth about our country's Christian roots. What is your bank paying you to take care of your money ?Traditional passbook accounts usually don't pay you a whole lot to baby sit your money .A CD sometimes pays a little more ,but most of them tie up your money for a specified time period .But thank goodness that their is another option ,one that pays a competitive rate yet does not tie up your money .Its the online savings account ,a good alternative to a traditional passbook savings or even a CD .One of my favorites is the HSBC Direct Savings account which is now paying a healthy 3.5 % A.P.R. until September 15 .So check it out !

Presidential Race

Now that the Democratic convention is over ,it is time for the Republican covention next week .This has been an interesting and an historical race to say the least .Being a staunch Republican I am pulling for McCain of course but in all reality I want what is best for our country which in my opinion would be McCain at the helm .
With the world in the state that it is in ,with Iran pushing forward to have a nuke and Russia becoming an aggressive bear again ,we are in need of a seasoned maverick like McCain to deal with the potential risk posed by our enemies .
I am afraid that having a rookie like Obama as our president would embolden our enemies against us ."But we are safe here in America ,nobody would even dare attack the United States ",you might say. My friend that is a pre 9/11 mentality ,we are living in a different era now .The rules have all changed ,or to better put it ,there is no rules .
Before you pull that lever in November ,thing about a couple of big buildings that fell not too long ago .

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome is a sickness that affects the lower intestine . It is for the most part known for its symptoms that are often intensified by an onslaught of emotional stress. The main symptoms involve abdominal pain accompanied by constipation taking turns with diarrhea . Irritable bowel syndrome also known as IBS as we will call it in the rest of the article can happen among any age group and is very common . Now we will take a more detailed look at the symptoms of IBS . We will look at what I believe to be the five main symptoms of IBS ,the five symptoms that mark the illness as well as the most debilitating .
1 .Problems with bowel movements , recurring diarrhea and also recurring constipation that is most of the time with pain . This can really wreak havoc with your bathroom habits .
2 .The stomach has a feeling of fullness .There can be bloating and gas .
3 .Pain in the abdomen or tenderness after eating which is relieved by having a bowel movement . This pain is at irregular intervals . This could really hurt your eating habits ,knowing that this could happen at every meal .
4.The stomach can get distended .
5 .Being nauseated and throwing up .
These are five of the main symptoms of IBS that can really hamper a persons life and make a persons life kind of miserable . Other symptoms of IBS include a loss of ones appetite , emotional distress and depression .
It is clear from this list of symptoms that irritable bowel syndrome is something that can be very unpleasant to deal with . This illness is for a lot of people a life long malady that they have to learn to live with .But there are treatment options for relieving the symptoms of IBS for those that have been afflicted with this terrible illness . So if you are one of the ones that are affected with irritable bowel or after reading this you realize that you may very well have IBS , then talk to your doctor ,do your research , weigh out your options for treatment for your IBS and know that you are not alone . There are a lot of people that suffer from this awful disorder .

Honesty is The #1 Key For a Good Relationship
Relationships,the crux of our life's are comprised of relationships.Yet sometimes it is the one thing that we neglect or fail to give our most urgent attention to.The truth of the matter is that we as people were created to live in community with other people,we were meant by our Creator to have(I believe)good relationships with our fellow human beings with whom we share this planet.If you study the teachings of Christ Jesus you will find that He taught extensively about relationships.He spoke of our relationship with God and our relationships with each other.He knew that life was not made up of material things or the trapping of this world that alludes to our selfish nature,but that life was made up of relationships.
In speaking about relationships I think it should be pointed out,what exactly makes for a good relationship?There are numerous things I could point out and I am sure that there are many varied opinions on what makes for good relationships,but I like to speak briefly about what very well could be the most important part of any healthy thriving relationship.That thing I believe to be most important is honesty.Simple,yet such a powerful concept when coupled with love.
Honesty,the word rolls so smoothly off our lips doesn't it.Most of us consider ourselves no doubt as honest people don't we?But are we really honest?Are we honest with ourselves?Are we honest with God?Are we truly honest with others?These are questions that we should ask ourselves and strive to answer honestly.Let us break down the process into steps so we can embrace this concept in a way that will benefit ourselves and also the people in our lives.
1.Honest with ourselves.Honesty begins with me,I have to be honest about myself,about who I am,what I am,how I act,how I feel and how am I relating to God and to my fellow man.THat can be painful at times but it is a pain that can bring healing into our lives.If I will come clean with myself about all my personal issues as well as public issues than I can begin to move forward if I so desire.Just being presented with the truth in itself is not enough,I must act in accordance with the revealed truth for it to benefit me.
2.Honest with God.A person has to come to a place where that they are honest with God.You might as well be honest with Him,for there is no way that you are going to pull the wool over His eyes.Now I don't believe anybody in their right mind would deliberately lie to God but I believe that it is possible to do it in a willful sub-conscious way if that makes any sense.But if we take the first step of practicing honesty with ourselves than honesty with God will come much easier.
3.Honest with others.Now this is what should follow if we have come clean with ourselves and come clean with God,and it does to an extent.But sometimes even at our best we are still tempted not to be honest with our fellow man.It is not always the easiest thing to do.Fear is the great enemy that creeps in and tries to rob us of our integrity in our relationships,fear of what others might think or do if we are truthful with them.If we allow this fear to keep us from being honest,then our relationships will never be what they ought to be.Our relationships will never be the deep,beneficial,intimate relationships that could truly enrich our lives and bring honor to our Maker.

I am sure that there are many ,many other benefits to weight training , such as you look better , more confidence ,better performance at physical tasks and so on . But you will never enjoy any of these benefits unless you get started weight training .So what are you waiting for ,lets get to pumping iron !

Are we Really Going Through Bad Times

You hear a lot of people deriding President Bush ,saying that he has shipwrecked our economy and that we are seeing one of the worst economys that we as Americans have seen in a long time .But do you really buy that ? Are things as bad as some in the media portray it ?Sure we are maybe in a downward cycle ,but look at the standard of living compared to people around the world also compared to 40 years ago .Even some who are in the lower middle class live in the lap of luxury .I think we have been duped into thinking that we are entitled to luxuries that we believe to be necessities .So maybe things are not how we would like them to be ,but maybe they are not as bad as some would have us to believe they are .

It came as a big surprise to us today ,but should we really be surprised at John McCain's picking of a woman for his running mate .A good political move some might say ,or is there some real substance to his decision he has made .I would like to think the latter but I am afraid that this is just another political ploy to win the office of presidency .Who knows ,maybe this young lady from Alaska might be what Washington needs .Somebody that comes far from Washington not contaminated with the disease known as Washington politics-itus .One can only hope .

With the report of the CPI index higher on Thursday some would say that inflation is going to drive stocks south .I would like to take an optomist view and say that what we are seeing in the CPI index could be the result of the record high energy prices that have now started trending lower . If oil continues trending lower and we can see some stability in the housing market as well as in financials ,maybe the bull could have another run going into 09 . Of course I really don't have a clue about where the stock market or the economy heading to ,but this is on my Christmas wish list for us all .

Declining Oil Prices

With the decline in crude prices it seems like Wall Street has a late summer rally going . If crude continues on a downtrend and the financials can get their act together and housing can find a bottom then the economy could give us a Merry Christmas . That would be great as we go into the holiday shopping season ,which is a time when traditionaly the retailers generate the majority of their income . Just speculating , but the retail sector might be something worth looking into if our economy continues to rebound .

Can the Consumer Bring Down The Price of Gas

Is it feasible or possible that we the people,the American consumer, can bring down the price of gas? Or are we to be held captive by the rising price of gas? Some analysts believe that the American consumer can make a difference in the price of fuel simply by consuming less. I tend to agree with this view. The question is whether or not we are willing to take the steps to cut back on our fuel usage. In this country we are used to having what we want and doing what we want when we want to. If we don't have the funds we whip out the plastic and indulge our every whim and desire. But we are facing a situation that could put a heavy financial burden on a lot of people; we need to stop and think what can we do to help make a difference. I have a few ideas and you probably have more to cut back on gas consumption.
1)Car pool-When possible share a ride with someone.
Not just work, but in other instances; like going to church,
going to town, picking up your kids and other school/sport
related activities. Do the math every time you carpool with
just one person you have made a took a 50% chunk out
of gas consumption. Think of 3 or 4 people riding together.
2)Slow down.Experts say that driving at a speed of 55 as opposed
to 75-80 could make a big difference in the gas we use.
It would take longer to get where we are going but overall
wouldn't it be worth it? It might even save a life.
3)Think before we go.We should take a moment before
we climb in the car and ask ourselves the question is this
trip necessary? Do I really need to go or can this wait or
maybe its not a necessary trip at all.
4)Consolidate trips.Instead of making daily trips to the store,why
not make weekly trips. Better yet instead of weekly trips;bi-weekly.
Still better, when possible;monthly trips. Get the picture?
5)Tele-commute one day a week. Some jobs we can do on the
computer via the Internet. When we can we should, ask your boss.
6)Park the gas hogs. When we can we should park the gas guzzling
behemoths and opt for the smaller more fuel efficient ways of getting
from point A to point B. For the long term, we should consider
just buying fuel efficient machines and send a message to the auto
industry that we want more miles to the gallon.
These are just a few ideas that just might ease the pain at the pump, if enough people put them into practice. Maybe you are one of the ones that higher fuel cost don't adversly affect your way of life and you think "I see no need to conserve gas I'm doing fine". Well just take a few minutes please and consider your fellow countryman that these high gas prices do affect in a hard way, and if not for yourselves but for your country and your fellow Americans lets do what we can to conserve gas and drive these prices down.

Pray

Let us pray that God would open up the hearts and minds of those in power that could make a difference in gas prices to do what they can.Prayer can change things,I believe there are some that could do something if they only would.I may be wrong ,but it wouldn't hurt to pray.At the worst,God could say no.But who is to say He might move in a mighty way and ease the burden on the American people.Anyways its always good to pray and talk to the Master.

Use Our Own Resources!

This burns me up,it should burn you up too.Why in the world do we have folks stopping us from getting our own oil here in America.Why shouldn't we be able to drill offshore and in the Alasken oil fields.If it is indeed supply and demand economics driving up the price of fuel,then why don't we increase our own supply here at home.Why depend upon OPEC,and Venezeaula when we could help ourselves to our own oil here at home?Why be held hostage by the middle east?
Those who our blocking us getting our own oil,should be out of a job and maybe be tried for crimes against the people of the United States.What do you think?
